Asturias: travel guides

Campsites in Asturias, a genuine emotion

Asturias is an autonomous community in the north of Spain, facing the Cantabrian Sea. Among its strengths is certainly the variety of its landscape, with mountain areas joining approximately 350 kilometres of coastline, characterized by a striking succession of cliffs and coves. Almost a third of the territory of Asturias is made up of protected natural areas, some of which part of the UNESCO’s World Network of Biosphere Reserves. To go camping in these areas is a guarantee of a rewarding outdoor experience, whether on the coast or inland.

Nature and cities of art and history

Asturias, along with Galicia and Cantabria, make up the natural paradise known as ‘Green Spain’, with beautiful landscapes where sea and nature coexist harmoniously in a rejoicing of colours. Among the many stunning places in Asturias, a special mention must go to the Picos de Europa National Park, where you will find Atlantic forests, abundant wildlife and breathtaking views, such as from the Punta'l Pozu in Ribadesella, with its famous Dinosaur Path, or on Cape Vidio in Cudillero, with its spectacular sunsets. Along one path or another, you can reach the Lakes of Covadonga. As for historic cities, special mentions must go to the capital Oviedo, with its many medieval buildings and baroque churches, and to the maritime city of Gijón, which is also rich in monuments, folklore and cultural events, including the celebrated crime fiction festival entitled Semana Negra, or ‘Black Week’. Among other Asturian cities to visit are Avilés, Mieres, Langreo, Cangas de Onís, Villaviciosa, Llanes and Cangas del Narcea.

The Asturian coast

To visit the coast of Asturias and stay in one of its campsites or holiday resorts is to discover places of immense charm, among cliffs and sea coves, with perfectly pleasant temperatures also in summer and the hottest months of the year. Not to miss are places such as the peninsula of Cape Peñas, the beautiful village of Cudillero and the white sandy beach of Aguilar, ideal for families and water sports. Another charming beach is that of Arbeyal, while there are also plenty of small fishing villages to discover, together with other coastal towns such as Luarca, Navia and Gijón.
