Canary Islands: travel guides

The Canary Islands are one of the biggest tourist havens of Spain, thanks to their mild climate, wealth of nature and tourist facilities. Located off the African coast of Morocco in the Atlantic Ocean south of Madeira, the Canaries are an archipelago of seven main and two smaller islands, all delightful for their beautiful beaches and crystal clear sea. Ideal for beach tourism, the Canary Islands are very popular with young water sports enthusiasts, who can enjoy diving, surfing, windsurfing and also excursions inland. Particularly because of their popularity with young people, but also with families and tourists of all ages, the Canaries offer a good number of campsites and holiday resorts.

Canary Islands: which to choose

In organizing a trip to the Canaries you will be spoilt for choice, since all the islands of this Spanish archipelago are well worth a visit. The largest and the most famous is Tenerife, with fascinating cities such as Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the latter a UNESCO World Heritage Site, in addition to the Teide National Park, which encompasses the third largest volcano in the world. Equally fascinating and a true holiday paradise, thanks to the many sandy beaches for tourists, is the island of Fuerteventura. Completing the list of the seven largest Canary Islands are Gran Canaria, with its great sandy beaches and dunes, Lanzarote with its volcanic landscapes, La Palma and La Gomera, with their natural wilderness, and El Hierro, with its natural pools of crystalline water.
