La Rioja: travel guides

La Rjoja, nature and great wines

Located in the north of Spain, La Rioja is one of the smallest autonomous communities in Spain, but also a major attraction for gastronomic and wine tourism. A land of great Spanish wines, with vineyards and wineries scattered throughout the territory, this region is ideal for those who want to take advantage of a stay at a campsite as a starting point for tours to discover the many natural and cultural beauties that abound there. The capital of La Rioja is Logroño, which, along with other cities such as Santo Domingo de la Calzada, offers a wealth of art and monuments, and, lest we forget, is one of the stops along the Camino de Santiago, or Way of Saint James.

Campsites in La Rjoja

This area is perfect for camping holidays, with quick access to the natural beauties of the area, such as along the banks of the Ebro River, the Sierra de Cebollera Nature Park and the Arnedillo Biosphere Reserve. Because of the lush nature of La Rioja region, campsites and holiday villages are often amongst greenery, away from the scorching heat and ideally located for those wanting to devote themselves to relaxation or hiking. The roads are well maintained, making it easy to reach, even in the cases of more isolated facilities, the various tourist destinations in the region, such as Logroño and other historic cities.

Logroño and other historic cities

Visitors to La Rioja, besides nature and local food and wine, can devote entire days to discovering historic cities such as the capital Logroño, where many medieval remains mingle with monuments related to the Camino de Santiago. With a strong connection to the Ebro river, with famous bridges such as the Puente de Piedra, or Stone Bridge, at the entrance to the city, Logroño boasts numerous religious buildings and monuments, many of them linked to the Camino de Santiago, just as in the rest of the province. To visit on holiday in La Rioja are also Santo Domingo de la Calzada, with its famous cathedral, and San Millán de la Cogolla, with its renowned monasteries of Suso and Yuso, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.
